To have a sense of mass (for a big dino like T-Rex), the hips should continue downward for at least a few frames after the front foot hits the ground. In the second video that Ridix posted, you can see the elephants hips swaying. This reduces the amount of side to side motion that my hips need to make to remain over the planted foot. For example, my hip joints are about one foot apart, but I don’t walk with my feet one foot apart. It would topple to the side if it did that. I often see animations here where the dinosaur has a wide stance and then lifts a foot off the ground. It also means that you don’t want the feet too wide apart. This means its hips need to shift a bit from side to side. The creature needs to keep its center of mass above whichever foot is on the ground.
